284 runners tackled blazing hot temperatures on Sunday (10th September) morning to complete the Pleshey Half Marathon.

The scenic route attracted participants from 54 running clubs, with 27 Springfield Striders taking part.

The event, back for the 11th year was set in the beautiful Essex village of Pleshey, on the outskirts of Chelmsford. The award-winning route takes you through scenic country roads, passing High Easter and Bishop’s Green, and finishing back in the village hall playing field.

The event was won by Jack Nixon of St Edmund Pacers in a time of 1:11:46 and the first female home was Lauren Reed of Havering AC in a time of 1:25:01.

The race this year formed part of the Essex Championship Series, ticking the box for the half marathon event.

Many Gold age category medals were won by the Striders men (in Essex Champs), so congratulations to:

  • Chris Burgoyne – 1st MV40 in a time of 1:15:13
  • Paul Miles – 1st MV45 in a time of 1:24:29
  • Mark Waine – 1st MV50 in a time of 1:22:52
  • Peter Chubb – 1st MV55 in a time of 1:29:20

The men also won the bronze men’s team, made up of Chris Burgoyne, Mark Waine and Paul Miles.

The first female strider home was Mamie Liu, also bagging herself a PB in a time of 1:42:46. Well done Mamie!

Thank you also to the 60 volunteers who helped to make the event happen, from first aiders to marshals and water station helpers; you were all amazing and we have received great feedback about the event.
