Another bright, if some what chilly Sunday morning saw 28 Striders venturing to Notley Park for the first round of the Mid-Essex League. This is the smallest of the leagues we run in. There are only five teams in the league and each one hosts a cross-country. Braintree and District Running Club were up first holding their round at the Notley Park.
A number of different clubs use Notley Park as a venue (there is an Essex League race there early in 2020 if you want to come and sample the delights for yourself and missed the opportunity today). And there are several variations of routes used (one of the races last year involved ditches and field edges) but today’s race stayed within the main park and involved 3 laps, each one involving running up the hill to the kestrel! There were a couple of muddy gateways and sections but overall the ground was fairly firm – most people were just muddy enough to confirm they had run a cross-country by the end!
From the nine ladies who ran, we managed to scoop 4th, 5th and 6th spot to make a good start to the campaign. The men’s race was very close, and Scott Cousins was narrowly pushed into 2nd place in what I understand was a very exciting finish.
A big thank you to Allison who once again did the scoring! Great running from the whole team and it was nice to see some new faces giving cross-country a go! Next up is the Vets XC races on 30th November (entries have now been submitted) and then another turn up and run XC on Sunday 1st December at Harwich (more details to follow).
