Andy and Tracy take lead

4 April 2010

Andy Mason and Tracy Woodyard went to the top of the leaderboard with wins at the third trail of the series today.

The Stag at Little Easton has always been the venue but this year was hosted by Trailfreaks rather than the B Team. Another good turnout saw many tired legs tackling the hilly course.

66 Striders have so far taken part this weekend with the other 240 expected to turn up tomorrow for the final race from the Roundbush at Purleigh. Starts from 10am Helen and I will be partaking of one of the fine breakfasts in the attached cafe from about 9.15. Do not disturb.

Chandler Fords into Massive Lead

3 April 2010

Over 100 competitors braved the showers and slippery conditions on day 2 of the Easter Eggstravaganza trail series.

Gary Chandler stormed to a second win in two days with a superb 54.50. Only Andy Mason in second place was also able to beat the hour with a fine 59.22. A clean sweep for the Striders with John Beaumont third.

Tracy Woodyard also claimed win number two with a strong 1.05.09 for another top ten position.

Spring on the fells

Saturday 15th May - Mount Famine, 5m/1850ft, a long way for a 5 miler, but one of my favourite fell races; another day trip

or join Andy Mason for Cribyn, 5.5m/3100ft. Again a long way, to the Brecon Beacons; probably feel even longer on the way back.

Sunday 16th May - Surrey Hill Races, a choice of 18m/2535ft, 10m/1268ft or 6m/730ft; not many easier fell races than the last 2 of those.

races start south west of Dorking, details at

Saturday 22nd May - Lletty, 9m/2900ft. (Inter counties race); another day trip, this time to the Clwydian Hills

and a couple of planned weekend trips

Friday 18th to Sunday 18th June - Midsummer Madness 3 day event on Midgley Moor near Hebden Bridge; good for anyone wanting to try fell running; accommodation is booked

Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th July - Brecon Fans weekend, Pen-y-Fan (3.5m/1930ft) & Fan-y-Big (10m/2200ft); a good weekend, but not really for beginners. Websites -  &

ok, the last 2 aren't spring, but as weekends away a bit more notice is needed.

Brentwood Bonanza

22 March 2010 Kevin Wrightbrentwoodhalf

After picking up handfuls of awards at the Dinner on Saturday, Paul Molyneux and Kate Mills continued the excellent work with victories at the Brentwood half marathon on Sunday morning.

For the still improving pharmacist it was one more race victory on his ever growing list, but this time he beat serial Brentwood winner Crispian Bloomfield by a huge margin of over three minutes and claimed yet another club record with his time of 1.08.59.

Kate had led the Essex 20 two weeks ago and had to settle for second after being overtaken at 18 miles. This time she hung on to achieve her first ever victory with a winning time of 1.26.24, which was exactly three minutes ahead of the second lady.

There were plenty more fine runs and personal bests. Nikki Brockbank finished as 4th lady and was joined in the PB stakes by Paula Cardy, Sarah Wenman, Paul Anderson, Ian Cardy, Stuart Putt, Siddy Bowring and Jon Byford. The club took silver in the team behind the local Thrift Green Trotters.
