Double XC and 2017 winners

This weekend was a double header of cross country, kicking off on Saturday with the Essex Championships at Great Notley. This is a pre-enter event, and the captains worked hard to get a strong team out. 39 Striders ran on the day: 15 women and 24 men, with the first 6 men and 4 women for the scoring team. The men and women race separately over different distances.

Liz Davies showed her continuing fine form and placed as first lady and is now the Essex XC Champion. Following Liz in the scoring team were Nikki Brockbank in 15th, Rebecca Pittman 46th and Nicola Ranson 61st. The ladies placed 6th team overall (out of 28) with the B team in 18th and C team in 23rd which shows the breadth and depth of the club.

First Strider man was Sam Cornforth in 13th, followed by James Smith in 16th, Alex Manton in 22nd, Tom Oliver in 31st, Antony Goodall in 54th and Stuart Raven 68th. The men placed 4th overall (25 teams in total) which is a great result.

On a completely different scale, the latest Mid Essex league cross country was held at Rivenhall on a cold but sunny Sunday. Striders again turned out in force for this course which included field edges, woods, tracks and a few watery ditches. Unfortunately I can’t find any results for this so will update as soon as I can.
