May bank holiday victories

A busy weekend of racing with various Striders doing various events round the country and abroad!

Alistair Gillan, Julian Catmull and Pete Tremain did the Fellsman;  62 miles of brutal Yorkshire fells which they completed in just over 24 hours. Good going guys!

Paul Jeggo represented Great Britain at the European masters mountain running championships near Barcelona. He came away with a v55 individual bronze medal and a V55 team bronze. Well done Paul!

Nearer to home at Witham on Monday we had the May Day 5; the same route as Boxing Day 5 but in May…..12 men and 10 ladies represented Springfield Striders on this cool and showery morning.

There was a surprise Ladies team victory for Rebecca Pittman in 34.51 Sharon Bannister in 39.08, Nicky Hands in 39.23 and Karen Chapman in 39.10. Very well done ladies. Rebecca also was 1st v55 and 4th lady.

James Wright won the Witham  race in 27.50 with Alex Manton 3rd in 28.09, Paul Miles 29.37, and Jon Byford 31.45

Liz and Russell Davies competed together in the Cardiff 5k Race to Victory (and welsh championships).  Liz was 2nd and ran a PB at 5k 17.07 to boot. Liz was also 1st v35. Russell could “only” manage 17.27

Val Govender had cramping problems at the Milton Keynes marathon which meant he posted 3.36.58. Paul Bridges also did marathon no 170 at Milton Keynes in 3.45.

That’s the round up for this week; well done to everyone who ran.
