Spring racing

April is a busy time for races here there and everywhere, especially as it is Spring marathon season.

At least five Striders went to Brighton for the Brighton marathon and started off in bright sunshine with 11071 others. First Strider was young Zac Knill in 2.58.59. Zac was followed by  Paul Bridges in 3.37, Clive Higdon in 3.54.04, Steven Armitage 4.01.20 and  Mark Moughton 4.12 . If anyone else ran it would they please let us know!

Another sunny start for the Bungay Black Dog marathon and the course is 2 laps of a 13.1 mile loop through the scenic Waveney Valley of Suffolk and Norfolk. A much smaller race with 168 participants; Rob Sirett ran 3.52 and shortly behind him was Chris Sewell in a PB of 3.54.

The start of the Braintree 5 race was also sunny yet cool. There were a total of 374 runners for this race.

After 25 mins 50 secs Scott Cousins was the first over the line for Striders. Second male Strider was Chris Burgoyne in 28.12 and third was James Wright in 29.07, and with Scott they won the first male team.

The first lady (and Strider lady!) home was Samantha Bilbie in a time of 30 mins 59 secs. Sam was followed by Nikki Brockbank in 31.02 and Kate Mills in 33.16 to win the First female team prize.  Sam also won the FV35 prize.

Ian Brazier did the Fellsman in Yorkshire, a challenge to all but the fittest.  The Fellsman is a high level traverse covering more than 60 miles over very hard rugged moorland. The event climbs over 11,000 feet in its path from Ingleton to Threshfield in the Yorkshire Dales.

We must not forget Ian Cardy who represented Great Britain in the Euro Duathlon Champs in Germany, one week after a PB at Manchester marathon. For this 5k/20k/2.5k course Ian clocked a total time of 1.03.52.

Well done to everyone who ran this weekend J
