All roads lead to Rome…or Manchester…or Bromley…or there could be a trail…

altChris Beazeley was not to be found.....

Four intrepid Striders became international runners this weekend at the 22nd Rome marathon. The weather was always a gamble in Italy and this year was a hot sunny Sunday in April which made for hard going on one of the most beautiful, historic and interesting courses I have ever run! However all Striders completed the course, albeit slower than expected due to the heat. This marathon is thoroughly recommended and the goody bags are very generous (and yes, included pasta!)

Chris Beazeley 3.55.41, Simon Miller 3.57.15, Sarah Goodwin 4.43.05 and Sarah Knowles 4.59.53

Well done Rome runners – forza ragazzi!

17 Striders completed the Manchester Marathon this year

Lee Martin was 1st Strider in 2.44 and finished 50th overall. There were several under 3 hour times; from Ian Cardy (2.57), Tom Gunning (2.58), and Alex Benson (2.59).

PBs were obtained by Ian, Tom, Alex, Jon Byford, Chris Snowdon, Heather Eastwood, Val Govender, Steve Bugden, Lydia Mutimbanyoka, Steve Brame and an hour and a half PB by little star Kelly Turk.

Well done to everyone at Manchester.

It wasn’t all marathons this weekend….a small contingent of Striders ran the inaugural Bromley 10k where the men swept the board; Scott Cousins 1st, Mark Newton 2nd, Gavin Allen 3rd and James Smith 4th and the male team prize and Gavin the v40 prize – phew!

There was also a trail (Night before the day at the races) where Nikki Brockbank made a guest appearance whilst she is over from China for London marathon. Nikki was first lady and 2nd overall and 1st Strider followed by Sarah Colbert in 3rd (and 2nd lady)
