This weekend was another busy one of racing around the county, where many Striders flew the flag for the club. There were some great performances over the weekend; it was also the final fixtures in the Mid Essex and Essex cross country leagues.
On Saturday the Essex league fixture was held at Gloucester Park, Basildon, where there were a few “hills” added in. Five men and five women took part. Highest placed man was Antony Goodall 42nd, backed up by Luke Fitzjohn 47th, Ed Freeman 62nd, Paul Broome 69th and Dave Weldon 101,
The five ladies were led by Isobel Gowers 49th, Nikki Ransom 53rd, Donna Hindle 64th, Lynn Tanner 80th, and Elaine Tribley 83rd.
At the end of this season, there were some fine overall results for individuals. Of note were Elaine Tribley who was 4th in FV55, Lynn Tanner 1st in v65, Paul Broome 4th V50, Antony Goodall 10th in V40 and Tim Brockington 7th in V60.
On a very cold Sunday morning 34 Striders toed the line at the very popular Great Bentley half marathon; 18 men and 16 women. A great race was had by many individuals, with several PBs and some team prizes as well.
For the ladies, Nikki Brockbank was 1st V40 in 1.25.23, Rebecca Pittman 1st V55 in 1.34.15, and Sheila Macauley 1st V65 in 2.08.07. Rebecca and Sheila also smashed the v55 and v65 club records. With Jackie Stretton and Jennifer Lovelock, Nikki took the ladies silver team prize.
Although there were no prizes individually for the men, with positioning of 4th, 7th and 10th respectively, Chris Burgoyne, Alex Manton and Pete Robinson took the Gold men’s team prize.
Also on Sunday was the last fixture of the Mid Essex cross country season at Little Baddow, always a good cross country course.
