Chris was selected for the over 60’s team representing Wales for his age group in the 31st British and Irish masters international cross country at singleton park, Swansea on Saturday 17th November. His report follows…
The weekend started with a team meeting on Friday evening at the Grand hotel Swansea where I was presented with his Welsh vest and jacket. All members receiving their vests were applauded by the whole team.
Team photos for all the nations were taken in the morning followed by four races on a hilly and muddy course in Singleton park.
It was a perfectly clear, chilly , but sunny Autumn day providing ideal race conditions and great views across Swansea bay to the Mumbles.
My race was 5 miles consisting of 4 laps, so I had to go up that long slippery hill four times and I was in oxygen debt with my arms going numb and my chest exploding after the first lap. Still I enjoyed the downhill parts and great support and cheering all the way around.
I finished 16th out of 20 in the over 60s age group and 3rd Welshman, so made the scoring team, unfortunately we just missed out on the team medals. England won my race and in fact won every race except the male over 75s, which was won by Wales.
