A lovely bright and cold winter’s day (perfect conditions in my book) for two interesting races on the calendar.

The Braintree Boggle trail marathon was hosted by Mid Essex casuals and a small handful of Striders (well, OK, 3) took part.

Alistair Gillan and Julian Catmull finished together in 4.35 in 12thplace whilst Marisa Christie finished in 5.55.

Even more Striders, this time 21, (12 men and 9 women) took part in the Benfleet 15, for the uninitiated this is“A challenging 15 mile, multi-terrain course, incorporating sections of the Canvey Island sea wall, and the undulating Hadleigh Downs”, at least that’s how the organisers describe it. I will just add that the view from the top overlooking the estuary on a sunny day is quite wonderful.

Back to the race though. Chris Burgoyne won the race in 1.30.50, closely followed by Alex Manton in 1.30.53 and with James Sullivan in 4th1.33.58, the men took the team prize.

First Strider lady was Rebecca Pittman in 2.07.52, and Rebecca was first in the female v55 category. 2ndStrider lady was Isobel Gowers in 2.16.58, and joint third ladies Sarah Hammond and Lucy Westcott in 2.20.20

Well done to everyone who ran.

  1. There were also 16 Striders at the Last Minute Trail at Broxted near Stansted Airport. Antony Goodall won by a convincing margin.
