The third Chelmsford marathon was held on Sunday on a bright and breezy morning. This followed the same undulating course as last year from the Shire Hall through the villages of Writtle, Roxwell,  Radley Green and Newney Green before turning back through the parks to Central Park. Several Striders took part and there were several Strider supporters along the route.

The first male Strider home, of the 20 men who ran,  was Sam Cornforth in 3rd place in an excellent 2.43, then Alex Manton in 10th in 2.52, followed by Antony Goodall in 2.56, making up the Strider sub 3 club for the event.

Busy weekend with lots of medals!

27 Striders took part in the Tiptree 10 mile race, which is the Essex 10 mile championship race and completes the Essex Grand Prix. A sunny morning with a slight breeze made for near perfect running conditions through the lanes around Tiptree, Messing and Easthorpe.

There were lots of medals and trophies for Striders in both the race and the Essex championship.

The long lean ladies of Springfield take XC Relay prize

altThere were many races far and wide as well as nearby, where Striders took part.

It was a warm Saturday afternoon in Hockley for the Essex cross Country relays and Striders fielded four men’s and four women’s teams. It is a short race, over about 3 miles and has several hilly bits. The course was very dry and dusty in parts.

Liz Davies gave the ladies an early lead with an excellent 16 minutes, returning to form in style.  Liz was backed up by Kate Mills in leg B running 18.31 and Sam Bilbie in Leg C in 17.36 to take the ladies Gold prize over Colchester Harriers and Southend AC.   Striders B ladies (Vic Curren, Polly Bridgman and Nichola Hands) came a decent 11th, C team (Hilda O’Kelly, Donna Morris and Nichola Norman) in 18th and D team (Amelie Mollinghoff, Sarah Goodwin and Anna Luff) in 22nd.
