Marathons catch up

The fourth Chelmsford marathon took place on Sunday 22nd October from the centre of town. It was a great day for running; no rain and not too warm. 9 Striders took part in this route around the country roads around Chelmsford.

First Strider home was David Lindsay in 8th place and in a time of 2.54.38 David was followed by Antony Goodall in 3.00.59 and 19th place, and then Alex Benson in 3.06.28 and a respectable 25th. The only lady Strider taking part was Emily Penkett in a very respectable 4.32.51 after having done Amsterdam marathon the previous weekend.

Further afield two Striders were at the Stevenage half marathon; Jan Schuster ran 1.59.34 and was 2nd lady in the FV55 category. Dennis Sherwood ran 2.00.59

Even further afield, Paul Dobson travelled to Valenica to do the half marathon there. He ran 1.23.48 and was 15th in his category.

Going back a week further in time, a contingent of Striders tackled the Amsterdam marathon. The team was led by Paul Molyneux in a great time of 2.24.21, and 28th position. Other Striders times are as follows: Mark Newton 2.36.32, Chris Burgoyne 2.39.21, Alex Manton 2.41.42, Stuart Raven 2.45.43, Seb Maguire 2.47.04 and Emily Penkett 4.29.27.

Well done to everyone who ran this weekend and last.

Pleshey Half

It was a bright warm and sunny day for our own Pleshey and Essex Half Marathon on Sunday which proved to be a trifle warm for lots of runners, although pleasant for spectators and marshalls. A total of 551 runners entered but only 434 took part on the day; 40 of whom were Springfield Striders. However, an army of marshalls and helpers for Paul and Ian behind the scenes ensured that the race was the success it is.

Striders men filled 7 of the top ten places in the race.

Paul Molyneux was first man and first Strider in a time of 68.55, followed by 2nd placed man Frankie Conway from Orion in 71.05 and 3rd was Mark Newton in 74.27. With Chris Burgoyne on 4th, the Strider men took first male team and therefore county team champions.

The men also nabbed the second male team prize with Alex Manton Russell Davies and Pete Robinson who came 5th 8th and 9th respectively.

There were also further medals for the men; Russell Davies took 2nd MV40, Stuart Raven 3rd MV40, Paul Dobson 3rd MV50 and David Smith 2nd MV60.

The ladies race was won by Rachel Sweatt from Witham RC in 1.25.49, followed by 2nd lady Nikki Brockbank in 1.29.25 and 3rd lady Jackie Stretton in 1.29.34. Together with Emily Smith, the ladies took 1st ladies team and thus county female champions.
