Midsummer Madness & other fells

A number of Striders were active on the fells at the weekend, with varying amounts of success. Closest to home were the runners at the Orion Fell Race in Epping Forest, with Nikki Brockbank having an excellent race, finishing as first lady. More details & results can be found on the chatboard. Paul Jeggo continued his fine form, 15th overall and 1st vet 50 at Moel y Gamelin (15k, 725m of climb, near Llangollen). Six Striders made it to the Midsummer Madness weekend in the Calder Valley. No wins here, but a number of second places. Janet Hill was 2nd F55 in each of the 3 races and overall in the series; John Williams similarly 2nd V60. The best performances of the weekend in Yorkshire came from 2nd claimer Harold Wyber. He led the field through the 6 checkpoints in the Reservoir Bogs race, a navigation event of some 12k. A navigational error between CP6 and the Finish cost Harold some 2 minutes and 7 places. After a fine performance at the Halifax Street orienteering event Harold then had another good run at the final race in the series, finishing 2nd in the 6k Timothy Taylors Tom Tittiman race. Jason Praill ran well throughout the series, as did Jon Legge and Andy Mason in the final race, the latter making a welcome return to running on the fells. Full results and links to photos can be found at www.cvfr.co.uk This is a really good weekend of fell running, and especially good as an introduction to fell running - worth putting in the diary for midsummer next year.  In the next month there will be trips to Shropshire  next Sunday for the Callow Fell Race, a brutal 5 miler, and to the Brecon Fans weekend on 13th & 14th July, for the 6k race up Pen y Fan  and 16k race round the Fan y Big Horseshoe. There should be more details on the chatboard for anyone interested.
