Long Mynd Weekend

Titterstone Clee - Conditions were good for this, the first race of the weekend, a short sharp climb up the highest hill in Shropshire. Edd Charlton-Weedy excelled in his first race in Striders colours, finishing 2nd in a time of 20'50", just behind Paul Jones of Mercia. Janet Hill was also in prize winning form, 1st L55. Rebecca Charlton-Weedy, enjoying her first fell race, and John Williams also ran. Long Mynd Valleys - This is one of the toughest Medium category fell races, and conditions on the day, rain, snow, wind and cold did not make it any easier. It was another good day for Striders. Harold Wyber finishing 4th, Edd Charlton-Weedy 6th and Tristan Wyndley 21st. A very good result, the team second only to Mercia, the local club and one of the powers of fell running. It would have been even better but for the cold, with Harold, and especially Tristan, suffering badly from hypothermia. Janet Hill again won her category, 1st L55. Andy Mason and John Williams completed the Striders turnout. Full results, and many pictures, action and otherwise, can be found at http://www.merciafellrunners.org.uk/ After his efforts in both races, Edd missed out on winning the combined event by just 1 second. The events were also the last in our Fell Running Championship for 2012/2013. Congratulations to our Fell Champions, Paul Jeggo and Janet Hill, who took the title in the last race of the year. There are a number of trips to the fells in the coming months for anyone who wants to try the discipline, including day trips to Shropshire for Carding Mill Canter (9th March) and The Wrekin (24th March), to Derbyshire for the Kinder Downfall (14th April), and on 18th & 19th May the possibility of a weekend trip to Bollington 3 Peaks and Settle Hills. More details in the Fell Section and on the chatboard in due course.
