Fell Relays

Rolling down the path between CPs 3 & 4,between Cow Ridge & Townbrook Valley,  the sun shining on the Shropshire landscape, the big climbs behind us and the A team on the way to a top 20 finish, it was easy to run with a big smile. On finishing we learnt that they had finished in 17th place, out of some 150 teams. Full results are at http://www.sportident.co.uk/results/2012/BritishFellRelay/fell_relay_relayoverall.html . A really good effort from Paul Jeggo, Roy Scott & Tristan Windley (running part of his leg with a broken Walsh), Harold Wyber & Neil Mcgoun (7th on their leg, and running against international orienteers on the navigation leg) and Chris Burgoyne, "enjoying" one of his first fell outings. To see how good the result was look at the results and see how many northern fell running clubs we beat.

An interesting sub plot to the day was which of the other teams would come home first, B (youth team) or C (elderly persons). The lead changed hands several times, Tim Brockington(C) leading from Andy Stroud on leg 1; Nikki Brockbank & Jamie Woodyard(B) establishing a 10 minute lead over Andy Mason & Julian Catmull on leg 2; the navigation leg proved decisive, with the lead that Neil Bradley & John Williams(C) took over Ian Brazier & Kerry Marsh giving Gary Wright(C) sufficient time to enjoy his run despite being overhauled by Anthony Marsh on the 4th leg.

Another really enjoyable trip to the hills. More are planned in the next few months, with details on the chatboard should anyone wish to try fell running.

One last thought on the performance of the A team; they were only 4 minutes away from securing a top 10 finish. Next year perhaps?
