Little Baddow and Tarpley

Striders took part in several races at the weekend.

First off was the penultimate Mid Essex XC fixture at Little Baddow on what turned out to be a mild, reasonably sunny morning. 22 Strider men and 10 Strider women took part on this hilly, challenging course through some lovely woods and around a couple of fields.

First man for Striders and overall was Chris Burgoyne, and the scoring team was made up of Stuart Raven in 11th, Antony Goodall 13th, Paul Jeggo 17th, Jon Byford 20th and Gary Robins 25th, thus making the men 2nd on the day.

First lady was Hilda O’Kelly in 12th, with Karen Chapman 14th, Allison Gillan 16th and Elaine Tribley 19th, making up the scoring team and 3rd on the day.

Striders are currently 2nd in the men’s’ table and 3rd in the ladies, with one fixture to go at Braintree.

The Tarpley 20/10 is run over two distances, 10 miles and 20 miles at a location near to Bury St Edmunds by St Edmunds Pacers.  Apparently the course passes through beautiful countryside and is run along gently undulating country lanes.

In the 10 mile race, we had 2 Striders take part: James Smith and Mark Newton who took 1st and 2nd respectively and James with a PB of 55.30. In the 20 mile race Pete Robinson was 2nd and Tom Cammack 3rd and with Alex Manton took the male team Gold – well done team!

Paul Bridges did marathon no 164 in 4hrs 11 and Damien Barrett took 6th place in the St Peters Way Ultra (45 miles)
