Essex XC Championships

A rather mild but damp morning for the Essex XC Championships at Claybury Park, Woodford. Rain the night before ensured that the course had some lovely muddy bits, which was actually pleasing to see and run in.
11 ladies and 20 men turned up to represent Springfield Striders.
The ladies race was first at 10.30 over a distance of 8km (about 5 miles) and was a 3 lap course, with a field of 144 runners. Liz Davies was first lady and therefore qualifies for InterCounties cross country, well done Liz!. Liz was followed by Sam Bilbie in 16th, Polly Bridgman 29th and Emily Smith 35th to take 4th team place.
The men’s race was a longer race (roughly 7 miles) and consisted of a field of 186 runners. First male Strider was Tristan Windley in 6th; together with James Smith in 22nd, Alex Manton in 26th, Sam Cornforth in 33rd, Russell Davies in 45th and Antony Goodall in 55th the men took team Bronze.
Well done to everyone who ran; it was a hard and hilly course which tested the runner!
There is a double header this weekend with Essex League at Notley and Mid Essex league at Rivenhall; hoping to see a good turnout.
