Essex Vets

A beautifully crisp Saturday morning over at Writtle greeted runners in the Essex Vets championships, moving from its previous venue. This year, the event was hosted by Springfield Striders, so an interesting course with plenty of features was expected plus the most encouraging and friendly marshalls! There was a bit of mud, a twisty course, a stream and some parts where you needed to be careful around the lake.

V35 ladies ran with the v50 and over men; Striders had 14 ladies and 8 men in these categories. The combined total of runners from all clubs in this race was 234.

Liz Davies did us proud by coming in as first lady, and with Sam Bilbie, Kate Mills and Emily Smith the ladies picked up 2nd ladies team.

Our v50 men ran well with Paul Jeggo coming in 6th, followed by Chris Purse in 34th and Gary Joslin 44th.

The v40 men ran separately to everyone else. Again we fielded a strong team and were rewarded with 1st men’s team; Greg Deacon in 5th, Paul Dobson in 8th, Antony Goodall 9th and Mark Waine 13th

Well done to everyone who ran, thank you to all the marshalls and everyone who helped; it was a great course and the encouragement from the marshalls was much welcomed.
