Weekend delights

A handful of Striders travelled to Newcastle to join the 57000 other runners in the Great North Run. This half marathon takes runners through the city centre, across the Tyne Bridge and into Gateshead and finishes at South Shields.

First Strider was Libby Nicholas in 1.37 and she was 128th lady. Other Striders to complete, in this order, were Mark Moughton, Richard Barker, Brian Poore, Jan Schuster, Claire Sharples, Gail Barker and Matthew Orwell.

Meantime, another handful of Striders ran the Langham 10k. Winning for the Striders was Gavin Allen in 34.45, closely followed by Chris Burgoyne in 34.54. Also running were Donna Morris, Nicola Pyle, Sarah Hammond, and Lynn Tanner. There was also a 5km where Lee Martin finished 4th.

Emily Smith finished as 1st v35 female and 4th female in the Essex Cross country series; consisting of 5 races over the course of the summer.

The Newtons, Mark and Sarah, travelled to France to take part in the Marathon du Medoc; unique in that there are 20 odd stops along the route offering wine and other delights….

The Last of the Summer Whine trail at Barnston was hosted by GFDR. 9 Striders took part in the 6.4 mile trail with Julian Catmull and Roger Gooding highest placed in 3rd and 4th (2nd and 3rd men). There was also a 4.4 mile trail won by our own Elaine Tribley.

And Paul Bridges did marathon no 145, the Star Trek Challenge, at Samphire Hoe.

Well done to everyone who ran this weekend.
