Bank holiday racing

A long weekend means an extra day of races maybe?

On Sunday, a beautiful day of summer sunshine, a tricky route and several clippers, followed by some beer - what better way to spend mayday (SOS!) morning at the 6.4 mile SOS Twister Trail?

21 Striders thought this would be a good thing to do and we had a winner for the ladies with Sarah Colbert. For the men, Gary Chandler and Julian Catmull came 2nd and 3rd.

There was another trail on Monday at Heybridge, either 6 or 9 miles, called the Cause Way and although I cannot find the actual results for the race, Sarah Colbert also won the Cause Way trail for the Strider ladies and Tim Brockington was first Strider man.

A not so beautiful start on Monday morning for the Witham RC May Day 5; slightly breezy and cool and a slightly different start and finish; the last hill up to the rugby club seemed never-ending. This race was also the county 5 mile championship so prizes up for grabs for those Essex qualified.

The ladies had some resounding victories. Newly returned to running was Liz Davies who clinched the ladies 1st place plus the County Gold. Sam Bilbie was 3rd lady and County bronze and, with Emily Smith, these 3 ladies took the Ladies Gold prize and County Gold. The legend that is Sheila Macaulay beat her own PB to become county v65 Gold lady and retain her club champion title at an amended time. Rebecca Pittman took Silver County v45 lady. 20 aldies and 15 men took part in this race, so another great turn out.

Paul Bridges is still on the marathon trail; marathon 130 completed in 3.46.35 at Milton Keynes.

Well done to everyone who ran this weekend
