Trophies at Relays and Brentwood

The Essex Road Relay championships were held again at Harwich and Striders entered a small but well-formed contingent.

The senior men beat Ilford by 25 seconds with a total time of 65 minutes; the team were Scott Cousins, James Smith, Mark Newton and Tom Cammack. Scott was fastest runner on the day with a time of 15.37.

The vet men picked up silver with Gav Allen, Gary Chandler and Paul Dobson. Gav was fastest vet on the day in 16.32.

And the v45 ladies got county bronze medals with their team of Sarah Colbert, Donna Hindle and Hilda O’Kelly.

Well done everyone who ran.

The Brentwood half marathon is a hugely popular race and this year there were over 2800 runners in total completing the gently undulating course around such villages as Mountnessing, Blackmore and Kelvedon Hatch. 44 of these runners were Striders so we were showing our presence.

Tom Cammack (apparently he is now known as “Beard”) was 2nd man and first Strider in a fabulous time of 1.12.09. Next Strider was Alex Manton in 14th (1.16.59) then Antony Goodall in 24th (1.18.53) Stuart Raven in 29th (1.19.32) and Paul Anderson in 30th (1.20.19). Together these 5 guys were the first team to finish and have been invited to a special awards ceremony!

For the ladies Sam Bilbie was 3rd lady and 1st lady Strider in 1.25.26. Sam was followed by Jess Pilgrim in 1.30.48 and Rachael Roughan in 1.34.55.

There were many PBs and great running on the day; a notable one being Kelly Turk who, having smashed her PB last week, went on again to gain another 45 seconds off it!

Well done everyone on a great weekend for the club.
