Tokyo delight for Mark

Mark Newton completed his complement of World Marathon Majors by running in the Tokyo marathon whilst we were all asleep on Sunday morning. He ran a fantastic 2.28.27 which was a PB and was 94th overall and first Brit! Mark currently holds the second fastest marathon time by a Brit in 2016, and fastest v35. Fabulous Mark!

The last fixture in the 53-12 XC league took place at Ipswich Food Hall on Sunday, hosted by Ipswich JAFFA.

This included the last race for the Strider Juniors, who have been having a consistent season. First Junior Strider was Daniel Chubb 24th, then Lawrence Martin 29th, Dylan Robins 33rd, Grecoy Martin 44th, Bryce Bannister 45th and Taylor Gooding 87th. 129 juniors in total ran so good placings for all. Lawrence Martin was 3rd U11 at the end of the season and the Juniors came 6th out of 11 teams.

In the men’s race Lee Martin was first strider in 11th, followed by Steve Moore 42nd, Roger Gooding 51st, Gary Robins 59th, Jon Byford 60th, Robert Hogan 62nd, Peter Chubb 71st and Tim Brockington 87th. The men were 5th on the day and finished season in 3rd.

Four ladies ran Sharon Bannister 30th, Kirsty Williams 41st, Karen Chapman 47th and Vicki Robins 54th. The women were 6th on the day in pool A.

This means that Striders were 3rd overall in Pool A at the end of the season.

A few Striders ran the Tarpley 20 and 10 in Suffolk.

Some great results from the men; Tom Cammack ran 1.57 and was 3rd male, James Smith 2.00 5th; Gavin Allen 2.00 6th and together made the winning men’s team. Gavin also was 1st v40.

Ian Brazier and Len Marten ran the St Peters Way Ultra 45 miles from Chipping Ongar to the ancient chapel of St Peter on the Wall at Bradwell. Ian finished in 19th in 7hrs 43 and Len 10hrs 22.
