THURSDAY NIGHT ORIENTEERING 2018 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 2
Good evening - The next orienteering should be on Thursday 22nd February. It'll be a Street Bingo event, with lots of checkpoints to visit, worth different points depending on the number written on the checkpoint, rather than how difficult it is to find, or how far away it is, so there could be some unexpected results. There'll also be a bonus for anyone who completes a sequence from 1 upwards, namely you get double points for each one in the sequence. - thanks andrew

Good evening, There's an orienteering event this Thursday, march 15th. It will be a memory map course, where at each checkpoint there will be a map to show where the next checkpoint is, but you have to remember the route to the next checkpoint, as you can't take the map with you! There are 12 checkpoints, the route is pretty straightforward, and there's no time limit. It could be muddy in places depending on the weather for the next few days. Everyone welcome, you just need to bring a torch and a pen/pencil. - thanks andrew

Good afternoon,
the next orienteering event should be on Thursday 26th April. It will be a set course, but with a Rodings Rally style format. Those that have done the Rodings Rally might be happy to hear that the checkpoints won't be unlit, camourflaged tents in the middle of an impenetrable thicket, but there will be a set of multi-choice questions to answer which will direct you to the right checkpoint, providing you select the right answer. Twelve checkpoints to find with no time limit. It'll still be dark so you'll need a torch and a pen or pencil. - thanks andrew

Well done to Richard for another victory in last Thursday's orienteering, and well done to the Casuals possee who kept him on his toes! It was also good to see some new faces, and the different format seemed to go down okay, I'll have to try another one like that before too long. Glad to hear that Kevin's recovered quickly from his tumble, and well done to everyone who helped in the aftermath. The next one should be an off road score event. More details to follow soon.
Here is the latest league table:-
.....................Played.Points
Richard.................. 3 300
Dave G................... 3 224
Lorna+John............... 4 203

Good evening,
the next Thursday night orienteering event should be on May 31st. It's a 60 minute score event, where you've got 60 minutes to find as many of the 50 or so checkpoints, each checkpoint will be worth so many points depending on where it is, and whether its' hidden or easy to spot. Most of them are off road, but you should be able to get away without a torch, unless you get badly lost. There are serious points deductions if you are late finishing! thanks andrew

Hello there,
Here are the final results from last Thursday's orienteering event:-
1-Richard...…,....125...56:20
2-Tim...……………………….108...49:22
3-Lorna+Dave G.....61...55:31
5-Dave...…………………...54...58:01
6-Len+John...…………...9...52:53
8-Marisa+Mark...……..80..63.38*

there were some good performances from this month's newcomers, although Marisa and Mark were unlucky to be timed out. Well done to Richard for another victory, with Tim not far behind. The checkpoint on the fence post appears to have gone missing, so I've added those points to those who couldn't find it, I also couldn't find the hidden checkpoint in the red when I went to retrieve it, maybe an enormous dog found it? If so, I wouldn't want to be that dog's postman!

There are two possible dates for the next one, 21st June or 28th June, however it clashes with the World Cup, on 21st June there's Croatia-Argentina and the 28th June England-Belgium and Panama-Tunisia, so if anyone has any preferences, lets us know. The nex5t one is likely to be similar format to the multiple-choice question type event we did last month.

Here's the latest league table
.....................Played.Points
Richard.................. 4 400
Dave G................... 4 273
Lorna.................... 5 252
John P................... 4 203
Sarah C, David H,........ 2 168
Janet.................... 2 158
Kevin W.................. 2 139
Donna.................... 1 100
Sarah H.................. 1 99
Tim...................... 1 86
Andy H................... 1 78
Hollie................... 1 78
Kirsty................... 1 66
Antony................... 1 64
Caroline................. 1 54
Marianne................. 1 54
Dave..................... 1 43
Len+John..................2 32
Gary W................... 1 25
Robin.................... 1 10
Marisa+Mark...............1 6

Re:THURSDAY NIGHT ORIENTEERING 2018 6 Days, 18 Hours ago Karma: 2
Hello there - There's an orienteering event this Thursday 21st June. It's a set course with no time limit, 12 checkpoints to find. Each checkpoint will have 3 possible locations, and for each checkpoint there is a fairly simple genrelal knowledge question, with three possible answers. If you know the answer you go to the corresponding checkpoint location and note down the fire hydrant number, if there isn't a fire-hydrant number to note down, it probably means you picked the wrong answer, or you aren't where you think you are! But the three chceckpoint locations for each question are pretty close together, so you won't have to travel far to find the right location! The winner is the person who finds all 12 correct checkpoints in the fastest time. You just need a pen/pencil to take part, torches shouldn't be necessary.
